A Holiday Cabaret: All is Shiny & Brite

Once again, HG provides a glorious afternoon of music as soloists and audience members join to sing the Christmas portion of G.F. Handel's triumphant oratorio.
Dr. Peggy Dettwiler conducts the event this year with student soloists from the Commonwealth University/Mansfield music department. The string quartet is comprised of musicians from Ithaca, Philadelphia, Williamsport and Elmira frequent CU/M accompanist Linda Seipler is on the keyboard. Audience members are invited to sing the choruses. Scores are available upon entrance, or you may bring your own. Of course, you may also sit back and listen to your friends and neighbors present this incredible work. The event began and continues as a fundraiser for the HG Treble Choir Program. (Fittingly, when the MESSIAH was first presented in London 1743 it too was as a fundraiser for the newly opened Foundling Hospital, a home for unwanted children.) The HG Treble Choir will present three selections before we commence MESSIAH. Please consider contributing to these young musicians. The event is once again offered due to the generous sponsorship by Marsha and Bob Chesko. |

Shaw Festival Theatre 10 Queen’s Parade Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada This timeless classic has been dazzling audiences since its debut on Broadway in 1956. Based on the play Pygmalion by Bernard Shaw, it’s the story of Eliza Doolittle, a cockney flower girl caught in the middle of a bet between Henry Higgins, a professor of phonetics and Colonel Pickering, a fellow linguist. With unforgettable songs such as “On the Street Where You Live,” “I Could Have Danced All Night” and “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?” My Fair Lady is one of the most beloved musicals of all time – and now it’s returning to The Shaw!

This sequel to HG's popular production of Miss Holmes in 2019 features the original actors returning to their roles, plus some new characters to help tell this intriguing tale.
